Green Deal Consultation closed.

Times up, the government’s Green Deal consultation is now closed. If you haven’t replied then the government won’t take any notice of your comments or views!

Channel 4 reports concerns over the plans for GD

Did you get to have your say, did you read the document, did you attend a seminar, are you ready for the changes they propose or ready to do battle with them because they are about to screw up our industry or eager to take advantage of a new opportunity?

Seriously there are lots of companies blissfully unaware that the government is planning to change the landscape of the double glazing industry, SME’s are threatened, larger companies are set dominate our industry and most dont know a thing about GD or its consequences.

Still the government is due to to review the comments from industry gathered as part of the Green Deal consultation, and will announce their plans a few months from now. Then “all hell will break loose” as we all attempt to position our businesses so that we can comply with new regulations from October 1st 2012.

Don’t say you haven’t been warned!

When you add or change details, we tweet the world!

new accreditations at double glazing companies

To generate still more visibility for companies using, we have added an automated tweet message so that when a company adds a new accreditation, uploads their logo or adds pictures to their page etc, it gets tweeted for all to see a bit like Linkedin.

Competitors who have yet to sign up really are missing out as more companies find that customers are using our site before they contact their chosen company, here’s two examples:

Tony Wybrow from Bygone Installations Thames Valley Ltd said he had received an email with an unusual email address, then he remembered it has only ever been shown on DGC web site!

Jimmy Deane from Traditional Windows in Romford had a telephone enquiry recently, when asked the caller said they had read about their 5 star rating and liked the reviews, so they called him instead of a competitor!

So we can now help you, (if you have signed up, the basic entry is Free) to tell the world (or at least the our followers) about the improvements you and your competitors are making to entries on our web site.

Visitor stats increase, a promising start for 2012

double glazing installations growth

Visitor stats for the first week of 2012 are considerably higher than average, about double. This is great news for those companies who have enhanced entries on the site, as they are more likely to be seen and it’s a promising start for this year ahead.

What with the strong flow of customer reviews following the launch of our 5 star widget (code that you can insert into your own web site and get instant sight of reviews, on your site too) and many more companies opting for two year Gold deals, the site has improved on the google rankings. (more…)

Green Deal Deadline fast approaching

The government consultation period is fast approaching it’s closing date of January18th. Submissions must be made by 4pm on the day. Any company can contribute, although most will use the services of their trade body or association like the GGF who have consulted their membership across the country.

Whilst many share the governments desire that homes are better insulated, windows, cavities and loft insulation etc, they are disappointed that there’s no meaningful governmental support for homeowners seeking to do the improvements.

I fear Green Deal is doomed to failure because of one simple human trait. (more…)

Are quality window installation companies like good plumbers?

tick boxes

We think so and so it seems you do too!

The double glazing industry has an array of companies of differing sizes. Large nationals, regionals, SME’s and smaller independent specialists. There is no right or wrong sized company to guarantee satisfaction.

The large nationals have modern factories and consistent quality but sometimes get criticised for poor service. Smaller companies often rely upon another company to make the products but offer a more personal service. (more…)

Sales have started, buy now, but remember to get insurance!

price of double glazing

High Street spending was down on last year before Christmas, then the sales kicked in and many stores have reported takings were 15% higher than a year ago. So are we still in recession, or heading towards a second?

Well the news over the christmas recess has suggested we are heading for another recession, so now is an excellent time to bag a bargain. Work is generally quieter in the first two months of the year, so orders placed now may be better value than those placed in March or April.

More worringly however, we have already been told of two window companies that have ceased trading today! Whilst that is obviously a major blow to them and the staff they empoloyeed, it is also a reminder to homeowners to ensure depoists are properly insured until the work starts or is completed. Just like booking holidays through non ABTA companies, ordering windows without the backing of an insurance policy, the GGF or DGCOS would be a nonsense, leaving you exposed should the worst happen.

Always check on web sites to ensure companies claims are valid, they do belong to the organisations they claim. Do ask for DeposIBG’s Insurance Backed Guarantees
